Alcohol consumption and cardiovascular disease

In her PhD thesis, Trine Wilkens investigates the impact of alcohol cosumption on cardiovascular disease. Drinking alcohol in moderation of 1 for women to a couple of drinks for men per day, seems to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diceases like stroke and heart diseases, and especially beneficial for the elderly population.

A moderate intake of alcohol leads to increased HDL – the good cholesterol, the managers a healthy heart, by transporting the fat cholesterol to the liver which will remove or recycle it.
